East Stroudsburg Spoils Millersville's Homecoming

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. - East Stroudsburg hardly looked like a one-win football team Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The Warriors put up 51 points in the first half alone and handed Millersville its worst-ever homecoming defeat, 65-14.

While the Warriors (2-6, 1-4 PSAC East) had lost six in a row entering Saturday's game, it still boasted the league's third-ranked passing attack, and it was on full display early. Quarterback Matt Marshall threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. East Stroudsburg piled up 356 yards of total offense in the first period while the Marauders (2-6, 0-5 PSAC East) mustered just 66 yards on 31 plays.

East Stroudsburg also took advantage of several Millersville miscues. The Marauders lost a fumble in the first quarter, failed to get off a punt and threw two interceptions in the second. Millersville's lone score in the first half came with 10:15 left in the second quarter on a two-yard run from Fateen Brown.

Following Brown's TD run, the Warriors scored five-straight touchdowns including three TD passes from Marshall.

Millersville managed one more score at the start of the fourth quarter. Bill Shirk hooked up with Greg Frantz on a perfectly executed screen play from eight yards out. It was Frantz's second touchdown catch of the season.

ESU out-gained Millersville 542-204. Shirk was sacked five times and completed just 9-of-26 passes for 93 yards. Jamal Smith, who had led the PSAC in catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns entering Saturday, was limited to one catch for 21 yards.

Daniel Jones led the Millersville defense with a career-high nine tackles. Jeff Longley tallied six tackles, a forced fumble a quarterback hurry and also recorded the first interception of his career.

Millersville travels to Shippensburg on Oct. 30 for a PSAC Eastern Division clash. Game time is 1 p.m.
