Hummelstown, Pa. - On Sunday at the PSAC Championship, the Millersville men's golf team showed the skill that made it an NCAA qualifier last spring. Shane Henry fired an even-par round of 72, and Nick Magenta and Matt Dudas closed with a 1-over-par 73, moving the Marauders up a spot for a fourth-place finish.
The weather conditions at Hershey Links were much more benign Sunday, and Millersville took advantage. Its 296 was the second-best round of the day, matched only by champion Indiana (Pa.), which shot a 289.
Millersville improved upon its round one score by 32 strokes and finished with a 624 total. IUP took the team crown with a 592. West Chester shot a 612 and edged Clarion by one for second place. IUP's Sean Sweithelm's 3-under-par 69 lifted him to medalist honors.
Henry's 72 carried him into the top 10--his best finish in three PSAC Championship appearances. Magenta moved up from 22nd to 15th with a 1-over-par round. Junior Brian Cooper placed in a tie for 16th after shooting a 6-over-par 78.
Dudas made the tournament's most dramatic turnaround. His 1-over-par round--his best of the season--was an 18-stroke improvement and moved him into a tie for 19th. Chris Fieger took 25th.
Millersville has not finished lower than fourth at the PSAC Championship since 1992.
