East Stroudsburg Hands Marauder Swimmers First Loss

The Millersville women's swimming team returned to the pool for the first time in more than a month Saturday against East Stroudsburg and suffered its first dual loss of the season in front of a Senior Day crowd at Pucillo Natatorium.

East Stroudsburg took first in 10 of the 14 events, winning 141-113. The loss dropped the Marauders to 3-1 on the season. Freshman Sarah Bernhardt led the Marauders with two first-place finishes. She took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.55, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of the runner-up.

She also won the 50-yard free style with a time of 25.52, edging ESU's Tara Robinson, who finished in 25.70. Bernhardt nearly took first in the 100-yard freestyle as well, but her time of 56.89 was better by just a half second.

Senior Breann Martinez, making her final appearance at Pucillo Natatorium, posted a time of 1:02.97 in the 100-yard butterfly which landed her a first-place finish. Arielle Walpert also grabbed a first-place finish for the Marauders, turning in a time of 1:04.29 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Along with Martinez, fellow seniors Christina Breznak and Becca Laufer were honored prior to the meet.

Millersville returns to action on Jan. 30 at Kutztown.
