Box Score
Millersville, Pa. — Coming off of its first loss of the season, the No. 3 Millersville men's soccer team responded in a big way, thanks in large part to
Kyle Loughlin's first half hat-trick. The Marauders added a second half goal en route to a 4-0 PSAC Eastern Division win over visiting Shippensburg on Saturday night at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville's (6-1, 4-0 PSAC East) quick-strike offense capitalized early, as Loughlin opened the scoring in the 6th minute. The junior took a
Dan Prian pass and fired a laser from about 18 yards out that found the back of the net.
Nearly 10 minutes after his first goal, Loughlin netted his second of the evening when he headed home a
Pat Baffuto cross at 14:50. The Marauders' leading scorer then capped off his hat-trick by converting a penalty kick 1:50 later. Homestanding Millersville continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the remained of the first half, however, dominating the shot-count 16-1.
The Black and Gold capped off its scoring a mere 1:05 into the second half. Senior
Anthony Pagnotti beat Shippensburg (0-4-2, 0-2-2 PSAC East) keeper Andrew Foran from the left side of the box for his second goal of the season.
Todd Grimm added a helper as Millersville ran its lead to 4-0.
The Red Raiders could muster no offense on this night. Shippensburg managed just five shots in the contest, putting one on goal. Millersville, meanwhile, racked up 20 shots (nine on goal). The two teams engaged in a bit of rough play down the stretch, combining for 36 total fouls. Shippensburg was also assessed four yellow cards.
Millersville held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Matt Langione earned a first half shutout, but made no saves in doing so. Backup goalkeeper
Kurt Pleier made the Marauders' only save, as he finished off the shutout by holding the Red Raiders scoreless over the final 45 minutes of play.
Millersville now has a week off before hosting Lock Haven in a non-conference contest next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
