Volleyball Heads Home Empty Handed

San Antonio, Texas - The Millersville women's volleyball team suffered setbacks to Central Oklahoma and No. 16 Florida Southern Saturday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas, keeping the team in search of its first victory.

Central Oklahoma (2-2) downed the Marauders in straight sets in the opening match of the day, 25-16, 25-15, 25-12. The Marauders continued to struggle on the attack as they posted a negative hitting percentage in two of the three sets. The team totaled 18 kills and 19 errors and also committed eight service errors to three aces.

On the other side of the net, Central Oklahoma piled up 38 kills and tallied 20 blocks.

Millersville was led by Jill Toronchuk's five kills, four block assists and three service aces. Hannah Duckworth added four kills. Meredith Sinback totaled 10 assists.

Millersville's competition got no easier in the second match of the afternoon. Florida Southern entered the match ranked 16th in Division II and proved its status by dispatching the Marauders, 25-10, 25-16, 25-16.

Florida Southern ripped 14 kills to just one error in the first set and never looked back. 10 different players finished with at least two kills. Millersville, meanwhile, was again led by Toronchuk, who managed five kills and eight digs. Sinback totaled five kills, five assists and six digs.

Millersville will look for its first win of 2009 this weekend as it hosts the Dutch Country Spiketacular at Pucillo Gymnasium. Millersville is scheduled to play three matches Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. against Wilmington.
