San Antonio, Texas - The Millersville women's volleyball team opened its 2009 season Friday in San Antonio, Texas, but dropped matches to Metro State and St. Mary's.
The Marauders, with six freshmen seeing significant playing time, were topped by Metro State in the season opener in three sets (25-7, 25-15, 25-13). The Marauders took one set from St. Mary's in the afternoon match, but came up short, falling 25-13, 25-13, 24-26, 25-10.
Against Metro State, Meredith Sinback led the team with seven assists and also added two of the team's 11 kills. Metro State, meanwhile, racked up 38 and posted an impressive .720 hitting percentage in the third set.
Sinback also added 11 assists against St. Mary's. Emily Bires paced the team with seven kills. Kristin Anderson and Allison Huss each recorded four kills. The Marauders posted a negative hitting percentage in three of the four sets, but tallied 11 kills in their third-set victory.
Millersville returns to action at Bill Greehey Arena Saturday at 12:15 p.m. against Central Oklahoma. The Marauders then face Florida Southern at 4:45 p.m.
