Millersville's Results
Philadelphia, Pa. — Senior Priscilla Jennings continued her tear through the spring track and field season, representing Millersville with a sixth place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Thursday night.
Jennings sixth place run came against a field of 35 competitors —many from Division I schools— and broke a bunch of barriers in the process. The Quarryville, Pa. native ran a 16:29.05, breaking the previous Millersville record of 16:54. She also became an automatic qualifier for the 5,000 in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, easily besting the automatic qualifying time of 17:05.00. The championships will be held in St. Angelo, Tex. from May 21-23.
As if breaking a school record and qualifying for the NCAA Championships wasn't enough, Jennings' time was also the best of any Division II runner in the event this season. Jackie Aerson (16:11.71) of Tennessee won the 5,000, besting Florida's Genevieve LaCaze by nearly two seconds. Jennings was far and away the best Division II competitor in the field, with Slippery Rock's Jennifer Harpp the next highest Division II finisher in 17th.
On the men's side, Jim Boyer ran a 9:31.71 in the Olympic Development 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday night. Boyer finished 13th in the 18 man field, but was the only PSAC runner in the race. Luke Watson of adidas won the event with a time of 8:55.84.
On Friday afternoon the men's 4x100 relay team of Keith Ogden, Anthony Adamski, Stephen Boyd, and Damian Myers placed 51st in 4x100-meter relay heats. Only the top eight times advanced to the finals and six of the eight finalist teams were Divison I schools, including Clemson, LSU, Florida State and Texas A&M.
The four Marauders' 51st overall time bested over 30 teams, as the competition featured 88 relay teams. The team did finish second in its heat (Heat #10), nearly a second behind heat winner Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Seven teams competed in the Marauders' heat.
The Millersville men's and women's track and field teams will be in action on Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Invitation, which will be held at Shippensburg University.
