Box Score
Hartsville, S.C. - Cody Wile and
Derek Kline both ripped home runs, and junior pitcher
Forrest Mengle hurled 6.2 shutout innings to help the Millersville baseball team to a 6-2 victory over Coker Wednesday afternoon.
One day earlier, the Marauders (5-5) were nipped by Francis Marion, the nation's 21st-ranked team, on a extra-inning, walk-off home run. Wile, who went 4-for-5 with four RBIs in Tuesday's defeat, made sure his team didn't go down Coker (9-9). He totaled three hits in four at bats, scored twice and drove in a run on his second home run of the year.
Mengle (2-1) scattered five hits and walked one while fanning six to earn the win. He pitched shutout ball into the seventh and sat down the first two hitters before surrendering a double. He then gave way to
Keith Bires, who closed the door.
Jason Long worked two-thirds of an inning and
Andrew Clemens pitched in the ninth.
With Mengle keeping Coker in check, the Millersville offense took the lead for good in the fourth when Wile homered over the left field wall.
Andrew Dochterman walked, and
Keith Spencer followed with an RBI double.
Chris Edgar singled to keep the inning going,
Ryan McCormick reached after being hit by a pitch, and
Lance Miller single through the left side, scoring Spencer and Edgar and capping a four-hit, four-run inning.
Dochterman provided some insurance in the seventh when he singled after a Wile double. Kline finished off Coker in the ninth with his first homer of the season.
Millersville stays in Hartsville, S.C. for a nine-inning contest Thursday afternoon against Coker.
