Towson, Md. — Stephen Boyd took second in the men's long jump and Whitney Savoy placed fourth in the women's triple jump, as the Millersville track and field teams participated in the Towson Invitational on Saturday.
Boyd, a junior from Dallastown, came through with a best jump of 6.53 meters (21'5.25"), but Mark Lisa from Rowan blew away the field with a jump of 7.14 meters (23'5.25"). Lisa's jump was two feet further than Boyd's second place effort.
Just edging out Motara Okusaga of host-school Towson, Savoy picked up a fourth place finish with an effort of 10.52 meters (34'6.25"). Lindsay Bumbernick, also from Towson, won the event, followed by Katie Berkey and Ashley Bucholz, both of Navy. Savoy and Okusaga rounded out the top five in the event which featured 11 competitors.
A number of Marauders enjoyed top-10 days on the track and in the field. On the women's side, Chrissy Savage ran a 13.80 in the 100 meter dash to finish eighth. Freshman Beth Fry just slipped into the top-10 in the 400 meter dash, placing ninth with a time of 1:02.76. Stacey Bernetskie was the final individual to wrap up a top-10 finish on the track for the MU women, taking 10th in the 100 meter hurdles.
In the field Savoy led the way, but Jessica Rhyner (high jump) and Kim Stokes (pole vault) both picked up eighth place finishes in their respective events. Lindsay Clark took home a pair of top-10's by coming in eighth in the hammer throw and ninth in the shot put.
The men's team got started on the track with a trio of top-10 finishers in the 100 meter dash. Damian Myers led the way in fifth (11.55 seconds), while Anthony Adamski took seventh, and Jorrell Nugent placed 10th.
Myers (fourth) and Adamski (sixth) put in good showings again in the 200 meter dash and were joined by Keith Ogden (seventh) in the top-10. Aidan Stiger finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.88. Stiger's time was just 1.5 seconds off of Corey Wall's (U. of Delaware) winning pace.
In the field events, Adam Kravatz placed fourth (3.95 meters) in the pole vault. Avery Webster and Peter Hafer finished fifth and sixth in the hammer throw to wrap up the day for the MU men.
The men's and women's track and field teams will return to competition next weekend when Millersville hosts the PSAC East Challenge on Saturday.
