Game 1
Game 2
Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville baseball team struck early in both games of Friday's doubleheader at Shippensburg, but the homestanding Red Raiders rallied and sent the Marauders to a 6-3 loss in game one and a 9-1 defeat in the nightcap.
Millersville (14-15, 3-7 PSAC East) out-hit Shippensburg (14-17, 4-2 PSAC East) 10-7 in the first game, but left seven runners on base. Shippensburg, meanwhile, got to freshman starter
Jason Long the second time around the lineup.
With the score tied 1-1 in the fourth, the Red Raiders scored twice and Tyler Reddick bounced Long in the fifth with a three-run home run to put Shippensburg up 6-2. Long (1-2) took the loss after allowing six runs on five hits in four innings.
Keith Bires came on and pitched a pair of shutout innings with three strikeouts, but the Marauder offense couldn't put together a rally against Tim Freshour (6-2).
Derek Kline drove in
Miles Gallagher in the seventh to chip into the deficit, but Reddick entered to earn his fifth save of the season by getting the final out of game.
Kline went 3-for-4 in the opener and drove in a run. Gallagher went 2-for-4 with two runs.
The Marauders opened game two with another run in the first inning when
Ryan McCormick led off with a single and stolen base, and
Andrew Dochterman followed with an RBI single. But that would be all the Marauders would manage off Ship starter Andrew Burke (3-3), who settled in and surrendered just three hits and struck out four the rest of the way.
Zack Eckley (0-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs and two walks in 1.1 innings.
Ryan Stauffer pitched 4.2 innings of relief, allowing four runs on nine hits, but allowed just one run of the final three innings.
Dochterman totaled two hits to lead the Marauders.
