Gallagher's Homer Lifts Marauders to Extra Innings Win

Game 1
Game 2

Millersville, Pa. - Junior Miles Gallagher hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Millersville baseball team a 7-5 extra-inning victory over Bloomsburg in game one of Friday's PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader. Bloomsburg, however, handed the Marauders a 13-5 defeat in game two.

Gallagher's home run--his fourth of the season--came after Ryan McCormick set the table by drawing a walk. It was Gallagher's third hit of the game as he went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and single. McCormick scored three times and went 2-for-4 with a walk.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, and the Marauders briefly took a lead in the second on a solo home run from Scott Slembecker. Bloomsburg answered with three unearned runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 advantage. Millersville got one back in the fifth when Gallagher doubled in McCormick. And in the follow inning, the Marauders loaded the bases with no outs. But after a fielder's choice, Gallagher lined a shot right back at pitcher Vinny Vorhees who snared it and quickly doubled the runner off third to end the threat.

Bloomsburg called on John Crossin to close out the game in the seventh, but Cody Wile was hit by a pitch and Andrew Dochterman moved Wile to third on a single up the middle. Freshman Chris Edgar then sent the game to extras on a sacrifice fly, setting the stage for Gallagher's dramatic homer.

Keith Bires (1-0) earned the win after pitching three shutout innings. Matt Kline (0-1) suffered the loss.

Along with the efforts of McCormick and Gallagher, the Marauders received two hits apiece from Wile, Dochterman and Slembecker.

Bloomsburg used the big inning in game two to earn the split. The Huskies capitalized on a costly Millersville error in the third by scoring five runs. They also put up seven in the fifth on six hits and two Millersville errors.

McCormick led the Marauders at the plate by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Derek Kline added two hits and a run and Keith Spencer went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Mitch Troy (3-1) earned the win for Bloomsburg, and Zach Eckley (0-2) took the loss for the Marauders.

Millersville (10-13, 1-5 PSAC East) travels to Bloomsburg (11-10, 3-2 PSAC East) for a series ending doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 1p.m.
