Game 1
Game 2
Millersville, Pa. - Millersville made its first appearance at home Saturday afternoon, but the Marauders' home field advantage mattered little to visiting West Chester. The Golden Rams completed a four-game series sweep by winning game one 3-2 in eight innings and taking game two, 8-0.
West Chester (12-7, 4-0 PSAC East) have now swept the last three regular seasons series against Millersville (8-11, 0-4 PSAC East). On Saturday, the Marauders were out-hit 19-6 in the two games combined.
West Chester, however, need extra innings to edge the Marauders in the opener. West Chester scored one in the second and one in the fifth off starter
Forrest Mengle to take a 2-0 lead.
Trailing by two in the bottom of the seventh, Millersville put together a rally after a West Chester error put
Chris Edgar on base to start the inning.
Keith Spencer followed with a walk and after a sacrifice bunt put the runners in scoring position,
Lance Miller drove in Edgar with an RBI ground out.
Ryan McCormick, who went 2-for-2 in the game, tied the game with an RBI double.
Scott Stevens kept the inning alive with a walk, which chased West Chester starter David Slusser from the game.
Derek Kline drew a walk to load the bases, but the Marauders could not get the winning run across. In the top of the eighth, West Chester scored off Kline (0-1), and the Marauders went down in order in the bottom of the inning.
Mengle was outstanding in the no decision. He went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out a pair.
The West Chester bats came alive early in game two, scoring a pair in the first and two more in the third to take an early 4-0 lead. Millersville could not erase the deficit as the team managed just three hits off Bret Moyer, who pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts for the win. Starter
Zach Eckley (0-1) took the loss after pitching three innings and allowing four runs--all unearned--on four hits and three walks. Millersville committed three errors in the game.
Kasey Cooper,
Scott Slembecker and
Chris Edgar had hits for Millersville.
The Marauders will look to snap their slide Tuesday when they host Philadelphia. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
