West Chester, Pa. - The Millersville baseball team opened its PSAC Eastern Division scheduled Friday at West Chester and was handed a 7-1 loss in game one and a 7-5 loss in game two.
The Marauders fell to 8-9 overall and 0-2 in the league play with the defeats while West Chester jumped to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East.
In the opener, Millersville was stifled by West Chester starting pitcher Jason Bowman (1-2). He went the distance, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out five and walking none.
Two of the Marauders' three hits came in the seventh inning. The hits came from
Andrew Dochterman,
Derek Kline and
Miles Gallagher. Kline drove in Dochterman in the seventh inning for Millersville's only run.
Cody Wile, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, went hitless, halting his hitting streak at 10 games.
Ryan Stauffer (1-2) suffered the loss for Millersville. He pitched 5.1 innings, surrendering seven runs and 12 hits.
The Marauders kept game two close, but a five-run fourth for West Chester proved to be the difference.
West Chester picked up one in the first off starter
Jason Long, but Millersville took the lead in the top of th esecond on RBIs from
Scott Slembecker and
Lance Miller.
Long kept the Golden Rams off the board until the fourth, when they drew four walks and received four hits to score five runs and take a 6-2 lead. West Chester added one more in the fifth for insurance.
Kline led off the sixth with a homer and
Ryan McCormick hit a two-run homer in the seventh, but it was not enough.
Kline and Gallagher both finished game two with two hits. Long (1-1) allowed six runs, five earned, and walked three in four innings.
Keith Bires pitched the final two innings, allowing one run, one hit and a walk.
The Marauders will look to bounce back against West Chester Saturday in their home opener. First pitch for game one of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
