Game 1
Game 2
Pembroke, N.C. - UNC-Pembroke used a bases loaded walk in the bottom of seventh to top the visiting Millersville baseball team 3-2 in game two of Saturday's twinbill. The Marauders also dropped the opener, 13-1.
Millersville (0-3) managed two runs in the second game despite being no-hit by Braves (6-2) starting pitcher Jake Dailey, who went the full seven innings to earn the victory. In the top of the third,
Scott Slembecker reached third base on an error and
Ryan McCormick gave the Marauders a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.
The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the inning off Millersville starter
Zach Eckley and jumped in front in the fourth when a Millersville throwing error allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate. Eckley left after the fourth. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on seven hits and no walks.
Millersville answered in the fifth when
Kent Gerdes led off with a walk and advance to second on a wild pitch. McCormick's deep fly out put Gerdes on third, and he then scored on a wild pitch. But the Marauders went down in order in the sixth and seventh, and Tom Porricelli reached on a second throwing error to open the bottom of the seventh. He moved up on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a sac bunt. Then, with the bases loaded and no outs, Josh Haley drew a walk, giving the Braves a 3-2 win.
Adam Koppenhaver suffered the loss despite allowing just one hit and striking out three in two innings of work.
In the opener,
Forrest Mengle took the loss for Millersville after allowing four runs in four innings. Millersville trailed just 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but UNC-Pembroke exploded for seven runs off reliever
Mike McMonagle to put the game out of reach.
Derek Kline and
Chris Edgar each tallied two hits, and freshman Michael DeSanto drove in the team's lone run.
Andrew Hunt also worked 3.1 innings of relief for the Marauders. Tyler Wood picked up the win by scattering six hits and one run over eight innings.
Millersville closes out its four-games series with UNC-Pembroke Sunday with a single nine inning game. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
