Seniors Shine in Final Match

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's volleyball team closed out the 2009 season with a hard-earned sweep of Kutztown Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Gymnasium.

Seniors Meredith Sinback and Emily Bires shined in their last match in black and gold, leading their squad to a 3-0 victory. The Marauders (15-26, 6-13 PSAC), who fell to the Golden Bears (16-12, 8-11) earlier this season, took the match by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-22.

Millersville set the pace for the match in the first set with six players recording kills as opposed to Kutztown's three contributors. Despite six Golden Bear blocks, the Marauders 17-6 kill advantage led them to an eight-point victory.

Kutztown took the first two points in the second set, but the Marauders quickly bounced back with seven unanswered points to take the lead for the remainder of play. The Golden Bears committed nine errors as Millersville cruised to take a 2-0 lead.

Kutztown led for most of the third set, having an 18-13 advantage at one point. The Marauders, though, recorded six-straight points to pull ahead. Three Golden Bear errors and two Marauder kills later, Millersville had won its final match of the 2009 season.

Bires posted a season and match-high 18 kills with a .351 attack percentage and added 11 digs. She tallied over 1,000 kills throughout her four-year career at Millersville, and currently ranks second all-time for attack attempts

Sinback tallied 35 assists, seven kills and six digs on the day. She ranks third all-time with over 2,800 assists, and holds the all-time record for service aces in a career. Sinback is also ranked fourth all-time in digs, collecting over 1,200 during her campaign with the Marauders.

Under second year head coach Betsy Hayden, the Marauders finished the season with a final record of 16-12, 8-11 PSAC and ranked fifth in the conference.
