Box Score
Shippensburg, Pa. — Alison Silva's header three minutes into overtime on Saturday evening gave the visiting Millersville women's soccer team its fourth straight win to close the 2009 season and kept Shippensburg out of the PSAC playoffs.
In a contest that featured lots of offensive chances, it was the goalies that took center stage. Millersville keeper Taylor Suskie and her Shippensburg counterpart, Beth Long, were called upon sparingly in the first half, but time and time again in the second frame.
The two keepers combined to stop 14 shots in a second half that featured 21 shots. Senior Sarah Cameron led the way with six shots for the Marauders (7-11-1, 4-7-1 PSAC East), while Gayle Kuntzmann and Katie Leverentz took four shots apiece for the Lady Raiders (6-9-3, 3-6-3 PSAC East).
Long was called upon to make three more saves in overtime, but Silva propelled the Marauders to the win on their fourth shot of overtime. It was Silva's third goal of the season and came off of a crossing pass from Cameron.
With the win, Millersville secured a fifth place finish in the PSAC East. Unfortunately they came up one point shy of making the conference playoffs. Hurt by dry spells for a majority of the season, the Millersville offense finally came to life over the last four games. The Marauders scored six goals during the four-game win streak, after scoring just six total in the 11 games leading up to the turnaround.
Suskie turned her season around as well, posting her fourth shutout of the season with an 11-save effort. The sophomore from Carlisle finished the season with a 7-7-1 record in net.
The team registered seven wins this season, a one-win improvement over last season's team and the most under Mike O'Brien in his four seasons. Millersville finished the season 5-1-1 in its last seven games.
