Marauders' Second Half Eruption Spoils Gannon's Upset Bid

Box Score

Erie, Pa. —
Staring at its second defeat of the season, the fifth-ranked Millersville men's soccer team stormed back with three second half goals to down upset-minded Gannon, 3-2, in Erie on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights (3-7-2) got on the board in the 18th minute, as Zane Polack took an Evan Chate pass and deposited it past Matt Langione for 1-0 lead. Chate would also assist on Gannon's second goal of the day, with his corner kick finding the foot of leading-scorer Dan Howell. Howell's seventh goal of the season gave the home team a 2-0 lead just over 33 minutes into the game.

Millersville's (9-1) offense stalled throughout the first half, taking just four shots, while Gannon unloaded with 12 of them. Much like they've done all season, the Marauders answered quickly. Six minutes into the second half Kyle Loughlin finished off a Pat Baffuto pass to cut the deficit to 2-1, but it was not the last that the junior from Washington, N.J., would be heard from.

Matt Wilson deadlocked the game at two nearly six minutes later, putting home a feed from freshman Adam Keller. Loughlin then came through in the clutch, netting his second of the day and team-leading seventh of the season in the 76th minute. Thomas Bargmann set up the goal, as the Marauders surged ahead 3-2 with under 15 minutes to play.

The game was controlled by Millersville the rest of the way, with Gannon's only shot over the final 15 minutes coming with less than three minutes to play. That attempt, taken by Sean Washek, was turned aside by Langione.

The shot tables were turned in the second half as the Black and Gold outshot the Golden Knights 13-3. Langione made five saves on the day, while Gannon's Steven Boehmer made six in defeat.

The Marauders travel to Bloomsburg on Oct. 6, before hosting Wheeling Jesuit next Saturday at 2 p.m.
