No. 4 Huskies Chew Up Marauders' Defense

Box Score

Bloomsburg, Pa. - The fourth-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies protected their national ranking and undefeated record Saturday by turning the invading Millersville Marauders away from Redman Field, 45-10.

Bloomsburg (6-0, 3-0 PSAC East) received a three-touchdown game from quarterback Dan Latorre, and its efficient offense averaged 6.5 yards per carry on the ground, finishing with 240 yards. Bloomsburg did not commit a turnover or allow a sack and also committed just two penalties.

Millersville (1-5, 0-3 PSAC East) held more than a seven minute edge in time of possession, but could not crack the PSAC's best scoring defense until the game was already out of reach. Three of Millersville's first four possessions ended in a punt and the other ended in an interception by Justin Presley.

With seven minutes left in the second quarter, John Banzhof booted a 47-yard field goal for Millersville's first points. But by that time, Bloomsburg had put 21 points on the board and immediately answered the Marauders' three points with two more touchdown drives before the half came to a close. Bloomsburg scored on all five first half possessions to lead 35-3 at the break.

The Marauders managed to score seven points on their final drive of the game. Quarterback Bill Shirk rushed three times and completed three passes to lead a 13-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by one-yard TD run from junior Cardoza Jacks--his second touchdown of the season.

Jacks finished with 39 yards rushing on 10 carries, leading the Marauders to 108 yards and their second-straight 100-yard rushing effort. Shirk completed 15-of-23 passes for 117 yards and rushed 10 times for 27 yards, but was match by Latorre, who went 10-for-12 with a touchdown through the air, and totaled 69 yards and two scores on six rushes.

Senior Julius Carter totaled nine stops to lead the Marauders in tackles for the fourth time in fifth game. He also made the team's only tackle for loss. Jamie Hoffman made a career high six tackles.

The Marauders will look to snap its five-game skid on Saturday, Oct. 10 when they travel to Cheyney for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
