Millersville, Pa. — Two goals in the last 20 minutes of regulation lifted visiting No. 7 West Chester to a 2-0 victory over the Millersville women's soccer team at Chryst Field on Friday night.
Much of the first half went by without serious scoring threats for either side. Each team took just two shots, but both of the Millersville (3-11-1, 1-7-1 PSAC East) shots were on goal.
Jenna Gould and
Niki Roberts each got a ball to Golden Rams' (12-1-1, 9-1 PSAC East) keeper Lyndsie Bernardini.
The second half feature much of the same look, with opportunities at a premium. Brittany Couper finally put the visitors on the board in the 70th minute when her high-arching shot from about 30 yards out dropped into the goal past the outstretched hands of
Taylor Suskie.
Just over five minutes later, West Chester added an insurance goal to make it 2-0. Jen Gangl scored her fourth of the season off a cross from Samantha Paolino and the Golden Rams were not threatened from there.
Bernardini had to make only the two first half saves in earning her 10th shutout of the season. Millersville managed just one shot in the final 45 minutes, an attempt from
Olivia Taylor that went high.
Millersville returns to action Tuesday evening when it hosts Mansfield at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
