Harborcreek, Pa. - The Millersville men's golf team entered Sunday's second round of the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational in a tie for first, but Indiana (Pa.) stormed up the leaderboard and overtook the Marauders, who finished in third place.
Millersville led IUP by one shot after Saturday's rounds, but IUP fired a 291 total Sunday while the Marauders slipped to 304. IUP totaled a 588, Daemen College finished at 594, and the Marauders finished at 600.
The par 72 Downing Golf Course played difficult Sunday with just two players finishing under par. IUP's Brad Boyle shot a 3-under-par 69 to take medalist honors at 2-under-par.
Millersville redshirt freshman Matt Dudas slipped from second to eighth after a 6-over-par 78 on Sunday. Still, Dudas finished alone in eighth and six shots behind Boyle with a 4-over-par 148 two-round total. Chris Orlando also shot a 78 in the second round, and he finished in a tie for ninth, one shot back of Dudas.
Sophomore Tyler Harman improved his first day score by three shots, and finished the tournament in 15th with a 7-over-par 151. Fellow sophomore Brian Cooper rounded out Millersville's scoring with a 8-over-par.
Dudas' eighth-place finish marked his second top-10 in four events this year. Harman has placed 15th or better in each of the last two tournaments, and Cooper has cracked the top 25 in all four tournaments this season.
Millersville will stay in Erie County and compete in the one-day Gannon Invitational Monday.
