Millersville, Pa. - In the second day of PSAC crossover action, the Millersville women's volleyball team dropped matches to Mercyhurst and Gannon in Pucillo Gymnasium.
In the first match of the day, the Marauders (10-18, 3-9 PSAC) tallied more errors than kills to account for a -.025 attack percentage. Senior Emily Bires and freshman Kristin Anderson were the only Marauders to achieve positive hitting percentages. Additionally, Bires totaled a team high six kills.
Defensively, the squad totaled 52 digs and eight blocks, but couldn't stop the Lakers' (17-6, 8-3 PSAC) powerful offense, which ripped 44 kills. Mercyhurst took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17.
In the second match, Millersville led for the first 16 points of the first set, while Gannon (16-5, 8-3 PSAC) committed eight attack errors. But after two services aces and a Marauder attack error, the Golden Knights took control to carry out the set in their favor, 25-23.
Millersville was narrowly edged 25-23 in the second set, leaving them in a 2-0 hole. A block by Ami Killinger and Brittany Lease to start play in the third got the Marauders' momentum going, and the squad notched five service aces and three blocks over the course of the set. But attack and service errors at the end of the match plagued the Marauders and led to a 25-21 defeat.
Senior Meredith Sinback collected 21 assists and sophomore Allison Huss slammed three aces and tallied 12 digs.
Millersville travels to face University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Wednesday, Oct. 14 for a non-conference match-up. Start time is 7 p.m.
