Lock Haven, Pa.— The Millersville women's soccer team rallied late and Alison Silva's goal in double overtime lifted the Marauders past homestanding Lock Haven, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Arielle Gordon opened the scoring for the Bald Eagles (3-7-1) in the 22nd minute. Gordon took a pass from Alissa Gamelier and beat Millersville (3-10-1) keeper Taylor Suskie from in close. The Marauders answered quickly, however, drawing even on Sarah Cameron's second goal of the season just over five minutes later. Allison Snyder set up the goal by bending a 25-yard free kick to the far right post, where Cameron was waiting to tap it home.
Lock Haven went back in front nine minutes into the second half, with Gamelier getting the goal. This time it was Gordon setting up Gamelier off of a corner kick. Gamelier's header came at the 54:10 mark and made it 2-1 in favor of the home team.
Trailing late and trying to avoid its fourth loss in its last six games, Millersville knotted it up in an unconventional way. Suskie, the starting goalkeeper, subbed out with 7:58 to play. Backup Brandi Tipton subbed in, while Suskie, who spent all of last season as a forward and has played both in the field and in goal this season, moved into an attacking position. Exactly one minute after the substitution, Suskie tied the game off a corner kick. It was the first goal of the season for the sophomore from Carlisle and she immediately returned to the goalkeeper position following her goal.
After both teams played through a scoreless 10 minutes of overtime, Silva finished off the Bald Eagles 5:23 into double overtime. Silva made a long run down the sideline before ripping a shot to the upper left corner of the net for the 3-2 win.
The three goals were Millersville's most since scoring five against Goldey-Beacom on Aug. 31. The Marauders are off until next Friday, when they host PSAC Eastern Division rival West Chester. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
