UPSET - VILLE! Marauders Knock Off Eighth Ranked IUP

Box Score

Millersville, Pa. -
The Millersville women's basketball team scored a major upset at home Saturday by beating No. 8-ranked Indiana (Pa.) 54-42 and handing them their widest margin of defeat this season.

Both teams entered the game with a record of 8-1, but IUP's lone loss came in overtime against Washburn, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation. By beating the Crimson Hawks, Millersville goes to 9-1 and ends a five-game losing streak against IUP.

The key to victory for the Marauders may have been holding IUP's starting forward Jahzinga Tracey to just eight points. Coming into the game, Tracey – the 2007 PSAC West Player of the Year -- was averaging 19.1 points per game. Instead, the high scorer of the game was the Marauders' own Gladine St. Julien, who had 17 points and four rebounds. St. Julien hit five of seven field goals and dropped seven of eight free-throw attempts.

The Marauders were also bolstered by two brilliant performances from Jenna Craig and Raquel Green. Craig contributed nine points and led all players in rebounds with 14, while Green had nine points and hauled in 12 boards.

The showdown between IUP, the No. 1 scoring defense in the conference, and Millersville, the No. 2 scoring defense in the conference, didn't disappoint, however. There were five lead changes throughout the game. It was the Marauder defense, however, that won the battle as it held IUP to 17-of-59 shooting from the field and 2-of-15 shooting from 3-point range.

It looked as though it might be an uncomfortable day for the Marauders as IUP grabbed the ball at tipoff and Crimson Hawk guard Eryn Withers casually dropped a three-pointer to get the scoring started. Down 7-2 just over one minute into the game, St. Julien hit for two on back-to-back trips, sparking a 17-2 Millersville run that put the Marauders up 19-9 with just under nine minutes left.

IUP closed the gap to 25-21 at the half and drew first blood again and took the lead 32-30 on a Kylie Miller lay-up with 14:25 left.

Tied 38-38 with 7:30 left on the clock, Green scored three-straight points and St. Julien added a pair of free throws to put the Marauders in front for good.

Down the stretch, the Marauder defense proved to be too much for the Crimson Hawks, holding them to just four points in the final 7:30 of the game.

Next up for Millersville will be a second-straight home game against the California Vulcans at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
