In its first PSAC dual meet of 2009, the Millersville University swim team dropped all but three events to the Lock Haven Eagles to go 5-1 and post its first loss of the season.

Freshman led the way for the Marauders by posting two of the three first place finishes for the team. Freshman Amie Mowery, who has exploded on the scene this season, earned a top time in the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.79) and Breann Martinez outdistanced the competition by more than 2 seconds in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.44.

Millersville outshined Lock Haven in the next-to-last event as well. Freshmen Vicky DeTample and Rebecca Irvine joined forces with Mowery and Martinez to beat Lock Haven by nearly 10 seconds in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Despite the loss, Millersville had several close second-place finishes. Freshman Kate Evans, Junior Becca Laufer, Sophomore Courtney Wallace and Freshman Katelyn Schmittle combined to finish second in the 400 yard medley relay; Senior Kara Rapp finished second in the 1,000 yard freestyle; Irvine came in second in the 200 yard feestyle; Mowery earned a second-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly; Rapp finished second in the 500 yard freestyle and Martinez missed first place in the 50 yard freestyle by just .38 of a second.

After shaking off the rust from their layoff of more than a month (their last dual meet was Dec. 6, 2008), the Marauders will face the East Stroudsburg Warriors on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Warriors are 1-3 in dual meets this season and 0-2 against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rivals.
