Avondale, Pa. - Senior captain Darryn DeShong shot a 3-over-par 147 to tie for third and lead the Millersville men's golf team to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic held at Hartefeld National in Avondale, Pa.
The Marauders, which won a spring tournament held at the same course, totaled a 319 on both days to finish 23 shots off the pace set by Adelphi. Dowling, which took second, finished just seven strokes lower than Millersville.
DeShong's 3-over was just two shots behind the second-place finisher Oliver Hudesman of Adelphi and five shots back of American Internation's Garrett Beyor. Hudesman and Beyor were the only two players in the field to crack 70 in one of the two rounds as both shot 69 in the opening day.
In all, four Marauders finished in the top 26, and a pair of freshmen continued their impressive early season play. Freshman #Brian Cooper# took 12th after back-to-back rounds of 76. Freshman Chris Orlando turned in his second-straight top-25 effort, placing in a seven-way tie for 17th with rounds of 80 and 76. Seniors Lucas Serbun and Scott Oste finished tied for 24th and tied for 26th respectively. Nick Magenta rounded out the Millersville scoring in 45th place.
Millersville returns to the course on Sept. 13 at the Hal HansenInvitational played at Clarion Oaks in Clarion, Pa.
