Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's tennis team entered Thursday's match against Philadelphia looking to go 5-0 for the first time since 2001. But invading Philadelphia handed the Marauders their first loss of the 2008 season by a 6-3 score.
The Marauders are now 4-1 on the season following Thursday's defeat but it still stands as the program's best start since 2002.
Millersville's No. 3 doubles team of Shauna Powers and Samantha Souders notched Millersville's lone point in doubles action. The freshman duo improved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-1 victory.
Powers also remained undefeated in singles action, boosting her season record to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Lindsay Knappenberger added the team's third point at No. 3 singles, picking up a win by default.
Thursday's dual ended a three-match home stand for the Marauders in which they went 2-1. It was the final home match of the fall season, as the team hits the road for six more dual matches, the ITA Regionals and the PSAC Individual Championships.
Millersville returns to the courts Friday at Clarion.
