Millersville, Pa. –The Millersville women's swimming and head coach Kyle Almoney has opened registration for the 2008-09 Marauder Aquatic Club, which is a competitive swimming club that competes in the Central Pennsylvania Aquatic League (CPAL) and in USA swimming events.
The Marauder Aquatic Club has four group levels depending on age and experience level ranging from first-year swimmers to eighth graders. Each group receives training in technique and racing strategies, and the instructors also develop the athletes into good leaders and role models, as well. The swimmer to coach ratio is eight to one, ensuring a proper level of attention to each swimmer.
Practices at the beginner level are for one hour, two times per week. The novice level (10 years or younger) practices Monday through Friday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Black group (ages 9-12 or swimmers starting competitive swimming later in life) practice for one and a half hours six times a week. The Gold group (ages 11-14) also practices one and half hours six times per week.
Along with receiving instruction, swimmers—depending on the group level--will compete in dual meets, local and regional invitational meets, USA invitational and select meets and will have an opportunity to qualify for the Junior Olympics.
Also, the Marauder Aquatic Club is adding a High School Shape-Up Clinic, which will help students train and get in shape for the upcoming season.
Practice begins on September 22. For program fees and payment options, please download the 2008-09 registration packet. For more information about the Marauder Aquatic Club, contact Kyle Almoney at 717-818-4392 or by e-mail at kalmoney@millersville.edu. Registration is limited to 60 swimmers.
The Marauder Aquatic Club captured the 2008 CPAL AA 9-10 Boys Championship and the 11-12 Girls Championship. Almoney is entering his third season as the Millersville head coach and has quickly made an impact on the program. As a collegiate swimmer at West Chester, he was a 24-time All-American and owns the school record in the 200-yard butterfly.
