Marauders Boost Mark to 8-1 Wiith Win at Philadelphia

Box Score

Philadelphia, Pa. - Sparked by Gladine St. Julien's second consecutive double-double, the Millersville women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 65-54 victory at Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

St. Julien led the offensive charge, totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds, giving her an average of 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in her last two games. The team's calling card, however, remained its staunch defense. The Rams became the seventh Millersville opponent in nine games to be held under 60 points.

Raquel Green played a key role in Philadelphia's 34 percent shooting. She swatted a season-high five shots to go with 11 points and nine boards.

With Millersville improving to 8-1 overall, it sets up a pair of key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossovers this weekend when No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) and No. 5 California (Pa.) visit Pucillo Gymnasium on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Millersville, receiving 40 votes, were just outside of the top 25 in the last poll.

Millersville was clearly not looking past Philadelphia (6-5) Tuesday. Despite having not played in nearly two weeks, the Marauders started quickly. St. Julien poured in 12 of her 16 in the first half, and Jenna Philo, who finished with 13 points, drilled back-to-back 3-pointers mid-way through the first period to help the Marauders gain some seperation from the Rams.

Philadelphia would hardly go away, though, as the two teams traded the lead seven times in the first half alone. Green's layup with 32 seconds left put Millersville up 31-28 at the half, and Philadelphia would never close the gap as the Marauders opened the second half on a 13-2 run.

The lead grew to 63-45 with 3:15 to go on a pair of Ashley Moyer free throws. That lead proved to be insurmountable despite a late Rams' flurry.

Millersville shot 44.7 percent from the field, and led by Philo's 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point range, the team finished 6-of-16 from behind the arc.

Philo also chipped in five rebounds and four assists. Jenna Craig added six points, six rebounds, three steals and a block.

Tip-off for Saturday's showdown against Indiana (Pa.) is scheduled for 1 p.m.
