Millersville Completes Unbeaten Season in the PSAC East

Box Score

Millersville, Pa.
The No. 6 ranked Millersville men's soccer team capped off an unbeaten season in the PSAC Eastern Division on Saturday night by handing the visiting Bloomsburg Huskies a 3-1 defeat at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.

The Marauders (15-2, 10-0 PSAC East) were not able to get off to a quick start as Bloomsburg tried its best to play spoiler. The two teams were scoreless after 45 minutes of play despite Millersville outshooting the Huskies 11-2. The Marauders had some quality scoring opportunities go awry and were also stymied by Bloomsburg keeper David Leiendecker, who made six first half saves.

Millersville was able to break through in the 54th minute as the Marauder seniors rose to the occasion on Senior Night. Following a handball inside the box, the Marauders were rewarded with a penalty kick. Matthew Procopio, one of four seniors playing in their final regular season home game, stepped up and beat Leiendecker into the upper left corner for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 Millersville lead.

Just 4:10 later, fellow senior Ryan Kiley took a loose ball and deposited it into the net for a 2-0 lead. For Kiley, Millersville's second leading scorer, it was the seventh goal of the season.

Bloomsburg (8-8-4, 3-5-2 PSAC East), already eliminated from playoff contention, refused to go away. The Huskies hard work finally paid off in the 63rd minute when Tom Kovack finished a rebound on a goal mouth scramble that beat Marauder keeper Matt Langione to make it a one goal game.

The Huskies would control play and put Millersville on the ropes for the better part of the next 15 minutes, until Kiley delivered a deflating blow. Kiley's shot from just inside the 18 came in hot on Leiendecker, but the Bloomsburg keeper only got a piece of the ball as it rolled between his legs and into the goal for a 3-1 Marauders lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Thomas Bargmann picked up a helper on Kiley's eighth goal of the season.

Millersville's 15th victory set a school record for wins in a season and  the Marauders will now get set for the PSAC playoffs. Millersville hosts East Stroudsburg in a PSAC Semifinal match-up on Wednesday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
