Shippensburg , Pa. – Sophomore forward Kyle Loughlin scored twice for the sixth-ranked Millersville University men's soccer team to lead the Marauders to a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon in Shippensburg.
Millersville (13-2, 8-0 PSAC East) defeated Shippensburg (1-12-3, 0-7-2 PSAC East) for the second time this season and outscored the Red Raiders 10-1 in the two games.
The win sets up a huge matchup on Tuesday between No. 6 Millersville and No. 12 East Stroudsburg, who earlier in the day defeated West Chester by a 2-1 final. The Warriors are 8-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Eastern Division with its only loss coming from Millersville back on September 24 by a final of 4-1 at ESU.
The Marauders carried a 2-0 lead into halftime with goals by Loughlin and senior forward Sean McLaughlin.
Loughlin scored his fourth goal of the season 21:43 into the match to give the Marauders an early 1-0 lead. 15 minutes later, McLaughlin took a feed from freshman Ethan Daubert for his team-leading 12 th goal of the season. McLaughlin's goal gives him 32 for his career, tying him with '93 graduate Chad Meyer for fourth on the school's all-time scoring list.
The two-time Eastern Divison Athlete of the Week helped the Marauders start strong in the second period when he found midfielder Shane Seabrook for the sophomore's third goal of the season at the 53:13 mark.
Loughlin connected on his second goal of the game and fifth of the season after taking a pass from freshman forward Dan Prian just nine minutes later. Prian then made it 5-0 in favor of the visitors when he connected with freshman Anthony Pagnotti for his third goal of the season. Daubert completed the scoring for the Marauders at the 77:54 mark with an unassisted goal.
Shippensburg picked up its only goal of the season against the Marauders late in the contest. Shippensburg's Scott Smith found Shannon Cooley in front of the net for Cooley's first goal of the season.
Sophomore Matt Langione made four saves in goal for the Marauders to pick up his 12 th win of the season. Keeper Lucas Stacey played the final 23 minutes of the game and made one save while giving up the lone Red Raider goal.
Millersville will put its undefeated Eastern Division record on the line again next Tuesday, October 28, when it plays host to No. 12 East Stroudsburg with game time set for 7:30 p.m.
