Men's Golf Takes Fourth at PSAC Championships

Hummelstown, Pa. - The Millersville men's golf team improved by four shots in the second round, but could not climb out of fourth place, finishing with a two-day total of 636 Sunday at the PSAC Men's Golf Championship at Hershey Links Golf Club in Hummelstown, Pa.
The Marauders, serving as host to the championship, totaled a 316 in round two after shooting a 320 in the first round. The team finished 15 shots behind California (Pa.). Clarion took second place, and Indiana (Pa.) ran away with the team championship, shooting an impressive 4-over-par 580.
IUP was paced by medal winner Leo Aklin and runner-up Cory Stelick. Acklin finished 3-under-par after shooting an ever-par 72 in the second round. Stelick slipped out of a tie for first with a 75 in the second.
Millersville was led by senior Darryn DeShong (Chambersburg/Chambersburg), whose 9-over-par was good for 11th. Freshman Brian Cooper (Millersburg/Millersburg) was solid in his first PSAC Championship appearance as he and Trent Coldren Manheim/Hempfield) tied for 16th at 15-over-par. Scott Oste (Bemus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) and Lucas Serbun (Abington/Abington) finished in a tie for 34th. Serbun moved up the board by shooting 11 shots better in round two.
During the event, Millersville honored former team captain at golf pro Todd Myers, who passed away earlier this year, by wearing shirts with his initials on the sleeve. The entire 2008-09 season is dedicated in Myers' memory. Also, the PSAC Championships were dedicated to former Clarion coach Al Lefevre. Lefevre, who passed away in August, was a two-time PSAC Coach of the Year.
