Mike Wood enters his third season with the Marauders in 2016 and is entering his second as the offensive coordinator. Wood came to Millersville after two successful seasons and a Northeast-10 Championship as the offensive coordinator at American International.
Wood, a native of Wilmington, Del., and a graduate of McDaniel College, returns to an area where is career began. He has grown accustomed to winning after winning four consecutive Centennial Conference Championships as a linebacker at McDaniel and three conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances as a coach.
Wood has built an impressive resume, coaching at Division I, Division II and Division III. Most recently, Wood guided the offense at American International from 2012-2013. The 2013 team went 9-3, defeated Stonehill 27-17 in the Northeast-10 Championship Game. The team then made its second-ever NCAAÂ Tournament appearance. The team averaged 32.7 points per game and led the NE-10 in rushing at 229 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry.
His quarterback, Kevin Arduino was named NE-10 Most Valuable Player, and offensive lineman Viondy Merisma, who signed a NFL contract, was named the league's offensive lineman of the year.
In 2012, Wood helped the Yellow Jackets to a 7-3 overall record and a 7-1 league mark. His offense scored at least 27 points in all seven wins.
Prior to American International, Wood coached the tight ends and running backs over five seasons at Division I FCS University of Massachusetts. From 2006-10, UMass won two conference titles and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament, including an appearance in the national championship game in 2006. Among Wood's players at UMass was Brad Listorti, who has played in the NFL.
Wood gained Division III experience during three seasons at Gettysburg College, serving as the special teams coordinator and strength coach. In 2003, he took a hiatus from Gettysburg College to work as an intern special teams coach and strength and conditioning coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Wood earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from McDaniel College. He and his wife, Katie have one son (Charlie) and one daughter (Ryleigh).
