The hallmark of consistent, productive and winning baseball, Tyler Orris starred at shortstop for four seasons, completing his career as the active Division II leader in games played and Millersville's record holder in runs, hits, steals and assists.
Orris was Millersville’s ironman during one of the most successful four-year stretches in program history. His presence as the team’s leadoff hitter and defensive anchor led the Marauders to four consecutive PSAC East titles, four consecutive NCAA Regional appearances, a PSAC title in 2015 and an NCAA runner-up finish with a PSAC record 53 wins in 2016.
The ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic Region Gold Glove winner in 2014 and a two-time All-PSAC East and All-Atlantic Region honoree, Orris started from game No. 1 of his career and made 204 consecutive starts in one stretch. He set the PSAC record for career assists, and he still ranks second in PSAC history with 101 career steals, seventh in hits with 275, 11th in runs scored with 198, and 15th in walks with 110. Orris closed his career with a .337 average, hitting .337 or higher in each of his final three seasons. Orris swiped 25 or more bases three times and is the only player in program history to perform that feat.
As a freshman in 2013, he made more starts than any freshman shortstop in Millersville history, twice drove in game-winning runs and scored a game-winning run in the PSAC Tournament against Gannon. He won his Gold Glove as a sophomore, leading all PSAC shortstops in assists and fielding percentage. Orris stole the most bases by a Marauder since 1987 that season as well. As a junior in 2015, Orris scored his first postseason honors, hit .402 against the PSAC East, again led the conference in assists, and his knack for the clutch moments continued. He helped the Marauders to their first PSAC Championship in 17 years and delivered a walk-off RBI hit in the NCAA Atlantic Regional against Winston-Salem State. In 2016, he served as the sparkplug for the winningest team in Millersville history. He was All-PSAC East and all-region for the second time and became one of only two Marauders with two seasons of at least 75 hits. No player before or after Orris led the PSAC in assists four seasons in a row, and his play helped Millersville to a national No. 1 ranking and a spot in the final game of the Division II championship tournament.
At the conclusion of his senior season, Orris was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 33rd round of the MLB Draft. He is now a sales representative for Medline Industries, Inc. Orris and his wife, Logan, reside in Mechanicsburg with their son, Owen.
