ABOUT RICHIE DEFULVIO
- DeFulvio emerged as the 157-pound starter to begin the season as a sophomore. He holds a 13-10 record this season and a 21-13 career record. During the dual season, he finished 4-3 and posted a 9-7 mark in tournament action. Heading into the national championships, the New Jersey native has recorded three falls, two technical falls, and one major decision victory this year.
- Richie opened the season at the Pioneer Open, where he claimed the title at 157 pounds. He started the day with a fall at 1:55 before earning a 15-2 major decision victory. In the semifinal round, he won by fall once again before securing the championship with a 12-10 decision.
- The sophomore earned his national tournament berth with a second-place finish at the Super Region I Tournament in East Stroudsburg, Pa. DeFulvio entered the tournament ranked third and worked his way to the championship bout with two decision victories, including a win over the tournament’s second-ranked wrestler. His championship match was cut short due to injury, forcing him to settle for second place.
- DeFulvio enters Sioux Falls as the No. 10 seed in the 157-pound weight class. He will take on the No. 5 seed, Nice Taddy of West Liberty. The two have previously faced each other, meeting during the dual at Cooper Park in early November, where Taddy came away with a 5-1 victory. Taddy enters the tournament with a 31-7 record.
