GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Millersville University women's swimming team kicked off the new year in strong fashion, defeating the Knights from Arcadia University 140–82. The Marauders showcased their depth by winning nine events and finishing second in nine more.

Millersville opened the meet strong in the 200-yard medley relay, as the top squad of Abigail Lowman, Leah Eckert, Violet Pizzillo, and Anna Sassaman earned the Marauders' first win, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of Arcadia's second-place team. The second relay team of Kate Pelagatti, Kiersten Zecchin, Anna Burrowes, and Jillian Fidelman followed with a third-place finish in 2:04.22.

The Marauders continued to control the meet in the distance events, with Hannah Baumgardner, Izabella Wreski, and Madison Taylor sweeping the top three spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Lowman and Sassaman followed with a one-two finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

Eckert and Zecchin finished first and second in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, while Sassaman, Baumgardner, and Fidelman placed second, third, and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. Lowman and Wreski added another top-two finish in the 200-yard freestyle, and Pizzillo claimed first in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.48.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Pizzillo, Sydney Brown, and Burrowes finished second, third, and fourth, while Sassaman took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.02. Wreski and Lowman each picked up additional individual victories in the 200-yard IM and the 50-yard backstroke, respectively. The meet concluded with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Pizzillo, Wreski, Baumgardner, and Fidelman earning a second-place finish in 1:47.80.

The Marauders are back in their home pool, Saturday Jan 17 at 2 p.m. when they host Kean for Alumni Day. The Marauders also picked up a dual meet Jan 23 at 5 p.m. at Franklin and Marshall College.
