BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — The Millersville trio of Kaleigh Funk, Ashlyn Simonetti and KC O'Neill took care of business on both the offensive and defensive ends, leading the Marauders to a 17–7 win over Bloomsburg.
On attack, Funk scored five goals on seven shots, three of which were assisted—two by Simonetti. Simonetti registered a season-high four assists and eight total points. In addition to being a playmaker, she scored four goals, contributing to the combined nine goals scored by her and Funk.
"The offense took a half a quarter to get adjusted, but after that, they were moving the ball and using their IQ to create opportunities for themselves and their teammates," said head coach Mike Faith. "Eleven assisted goals are something that I love and we preach all the time, make the extra pass, make your teammate look good.
Defensively, O'Neill had her best game to date, recording 11 saves. Nine of those saves came in the first half, helping to limit Bloomsburg to just one goal during that period.
"I was really happy with the tone we set on the defensive end of the field," Faith mentioned. "To hold a team to one goal in a half is amazing. We played great individual defense, and KC made some great saves."
Millersville played a complete game, out-possessing Bloomsburg. In the first half, the Marauders scored seven goals to the Huskies' one, providing them with a comfortable buffer heading into the second half.
The Marauders reignited their spark in the second half, adding 10 more goals. In the third quarter, Millersville outscored Bloomsburg 6–4. Funk and Jodylynn Cadden each netted a pair, followed by solo tallies from Simonetti and Ella Linthicum.
"Ella Linthicum registered her 100th career point today, and I was proud to be there for it," said Faith. "She's a great player who has had an amazing career. We are going to miss her next year."
The 13–5 deficit going into the fourth quarter was too large for the Huskies to overcome and complete the comeback. Millersville showed no signs of letting up, as they ran away with a dominant 17–7 performance on the road.
The Marauders will honor the seniors and welcome alumni back when they face West Chester on Saturday at noon.
