Marauders clash with No. 2 Golden Rams on senior day

ABOUT THE GAME

  • In the PSAC East standings, Millersville is seated in fourth place while they take on West Chester, who is seated first in the PSAC East and second in the nation. The Marauders are 4–3 in conference play to the Golden Rams' flawless 8–0 conference record. Millersville is looking to snap a 47-game loss streak to PSAC East foes to honor the eight seniors on the Millersville roster. Campbell Kast, Lily Smith, Ashlyn Simonetti, Rachel Keeney, McKenna Billie, Kaleigh Funk, Maya Porrecca, and Ella Linthicum will be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program over the past four years. 

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Millersville is 8–4 on the season, with their four losses all to nationally ranked opponents. Throughout the first three quarters, they have kept the games against these talented opponents within reach. Their closest game to pulling off an upset was against No. 12 East Stroudsburg in a 13–11 loss. 
  • Millersville has elevated its level of play this season, matching a season-best conference record of 8–4 with five games still remaining. The last time the women’s lacrosse program reached eight or more wins was in 2022. Before that, you'd have to go back to 2001, when head coach Barbara Waltman guided the Marauders to an impressive 10–5 finish.
  • On attack, Millersville has outscored opponents 168–135 but selflessly passed the rock, as 90 of those goals have come from assists Ashlyn Simonetti (36) and Kaleigh Funk (32) lead the team in goals as they both have scored over 30 goals apiece. Rachel Keeney, able to find the back of the net as she has scored 26 goals, leads the team in assists with 24. Her ability to drive and draw defenders allows her to find the open player to aid in an assist. 
  • KC O'Neill is gearing up for the challenge against WCU as she is coming off her best game of the season against Bloomsburg. O'Neill had a season-high of 11 saves and only allowed the Huskies to score seven goals.  
  • Moraca has been stellar off the draw control. She has collected 84 draw control possessions averaging seven draws per game.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN RAMS

  • No. 2 West Chester is undefeated in the season, 12–0. They have had closely contested battles with other nationally ranked opponents but managed to edge out the win. 
  • As a team, the Golden Rams have scored 227 goals to Opponet's 103. Just under half of their goals are assisted, and they average 39.5 shots per game. 
  • Leading the team and the PSAC is Keri Barnett. The senior leads the team in goals (73) and assists (17). She ranks first in the PSAC in three categories goals per game (6.08), points per game, (7.50), and shots per game (11.17).
  • The second leading scorer on the Ram's offensive forefront is Sydney Wasdick, who has tallied 44 goals and four assists. Wasdick also takes control of the draw as she leads the team collecting 71. 
  • The starting goalkeepers in the net vary between Morgan Koons and Hannah Cornelius. Cornelius has started seven games, and Koons has started five. Together, they average 8.58 goals against and 73 saves for a .415 save percentage to remain undefeated in the net. 

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville and West Chester will compete at Biemesderfer Stadium to honor the seniors and welcome back the alumni. The Marauders held the Rams in a closely contested game for the first three quarters. Millersville only trailed 15–10 at the end of the third. Millerville was getting the looks on the offensive end but ran out of gas to conclude the game.
