Simonetti’s offensive milestone helps put Marauders on top

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — The Marauders returned to the win column with their 10–7 win over Shepherd Wednesday. Ashlyn Simonetti scored her 100th career goal with five against the Rams.

Simonetti helped Millersville break away from Shepherd after a 1-1 score in the first quarter. She scored four out of the five goals in the second quarter. Simonetti matched a season-high, scoring five goals and firing a season-high 12 shots.

"Ashlyn had another great game, finishing the ball around the goal," said head coach Mike Faith.

Jodylynn Cadden and Kaleigh Funk got in on the action, each netting a goal to extend Millersville's lead to 9–4. Defensively, KC O'Neill recorded two saves, and the Marauder's defense forced a turnover and capitalized on their mistakes to blank them in the third.

O'Neill tallied two more saves, but the Rams pushed in the final quarter to make the comeback from self-inflicted Marauder turnovers. Shepherd capitalized and scored three goals, but it was too big of a lead as Millersville secured the 10–7 victory.

"We were very gritty today, especially on the defensive side of the ball," Faith said. "The offense hit a bunch of pipes, and costly turnovers kept the game close. That will be a main focus the next two days ahead of a very good Kutztown team. "

Millersville improves to 6–3 overall and 2–2 in conference play. The Marauders will continue their road journey, traveling to No. 14 Kutztown on Saturday, March 29, at noon.
