Marauders finish fourth at PSAC Indoor Championships

| By:
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Marauders eyed a top-four finish at this year's PSAC Indoor Championships and accomplished just that, racking up 59 points and four All-PSAC finishes at the conference meet.

All four athletes on the Millersville indoor track & field team that earned the all-conference honor did so for the first time with second place finishes in their respective events. Megan Malecki cleared 11-11 3/4 in the pole vault on Saturday to start the meet for 'Ville, and Katelyn Murphy, Aasly De Leon, and Sarah Hessler followed her up with personal-best performances on Sunday. Murphy competed first in the 60-meter hurdles, and after finishing third in the preliminary round, the sophomore jumped up a spot with an 8.95 finish. De Leon's weekend went similarly in the 60-meter dash, clocking a 7.70 finish on Saturday, and improving on Sunday with a time of 7.64. The shot put was one of the last events to finish at the meet, but Hessler helped the Marauders go out with a bang and secure fourth place. The junior not only finished second at the meet with a top throw of 44-10 3/4, but she also hit the NCAA provisional mark as well.

"It's nice that people really showed up this year, and I think they were up for it," said head coach Andy Young. "The team was really supportive this year and very loud with their support. That was pretty awesome to see, and I think people really fed off that today."

The 59 points scored is the third-most by the team at the PSAC Indoor Championships, four points shy of tying the record set in 2008. With the strong finish to the indoor season, the Marauders hope to use this performance to jump up the final leaderboard at the PSAC Outdoor Championships in May.

"Fourth is a good place for us to be, especially being indoors," Young said. "[Our team] knows the last time we were fourth indoors, we won outdoors. So it's in the back of their heads right now that we're a much better outdoor track and field team. It's going to be a battle, but there's a possibility of us winning that we're aware of."
