EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Aidan Micheli earned the first tournament title of his career, going 4-0 and leading Millersville's efforts at Saturday's Mideast Futures hosted by TCNJ.
Micheli was one of six Marauders to place. The 165-pound
Mitch Bivona also reached his championship match and finished as the runner-up.
Cael Rossi (133) and
Elias Smith (149) placed third.
Colin Higgins took fifth at 133 pounds, and
Mason Beatty placed sixth in the same weight class.
Micheli earned two major decisions as part of his day, one of which came by a 12-1 score over Ahmed Hussain of TCNJ in the finals. Bivona racked up three pins and a tech fall before falling in the finals to Stevens' Jack Bailey by pin at 4:46. Rossi won his first two matches by 16-1 tech fall and 9-0 major before falling in the semis. He won the third-place match with a pin of Blake Dergham of Penn Tech in 1:52. Smith started his day with a decision and a fall before falling in the semis. In the third-place match, he downed Wilkes' Jacob Bettencourt by a 13-3 major decision.
Members of the Millersville roster wrestling unattached also performed well.
Gavin Boland won the 125-pound weight class with a 3-0 record that included two pins. 197-pound
Mason Testerman finished as runner-up.
Millersville wrestling now heads into the postseason, competing at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships on March 1 in Fairmont, W.Va. Wrestlers who finish in the top three of their weight classes advance to the NCAA Division II Championships.
