SecsABOUT THE MATCH
- Millersville Wrestling will travel to Fairmont, WV., to compete in the annual NCAA Division II Super Regional I championships. For this tournament, the wrestling program selects its 10 starters in each weight class to compete to punch their ticket to the NCAA championships. 12 teams are competing at the Super Regional I in West Virginia. The wrestlers in first, second, or third place within their respective weight class will move onto the big stage to compete for a chance to be deemed a national champion.
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
- Wrestling at 125 pounds is Bryce Beatty. The senior has obtained the starting spot for the last four years and fell one placement short at the Super Regional I in 2024 of punching his first ticket to the NCAA Championships. Going into the SR1, Beatty is ranked in third place. He wrestled for a career-best season record, 18–7 and posted a first place finish at the Glenville State Invitational.
- At 133 pounds, Taylor Robinson will represent this weight class. Not shy to the spotlight, Robinson is ranked 12th in the nation and boasts an 11–3 record. Ranked nationally, the redshirt junior is competing as an underdog only to be ranked fifth going into the SR1.
- A stellar year round performance from Nick Cottone (141) seats him in the No. 2 spot in the tournament. The redshirt sophomore fought for his 16–5 record. 10 of his wins have been from bonus point victories, three falls, three technical falls, and four major decisions. Cottone is on a five-match win streak in hopes of continuing this weekend when debuting in the SR1.
- Making his first appearance in the SR1 line up is freshman Daniel Sinclair (149). The 149-pounder is seated in fifth place at this tournament. Sinclair stepped up into the starting role midseason due to a marauder injury. The freshman has shown commitment and grit working hard at practice, which translates to wanted results on the mat. This season Sinclair is 12–7 and posts five bonus point wins. The most recent losses on Sinclair's record were only by decision and attest to his work ethic as he very well could pull off an upset this upcoming weekend.
- Marcus Gable will also be debuting at the SR1 in the 157 pound weight class and is ranked sixth going into the tournament. The freshman stepped up into the starting role midseason and proved himself worthy of the start. Gable tallied a 12–10 record with nine bonus point wins, three falls, two technical falls, and four major decisions.
- Arguably wrestling in the hardest weight class is Andrew Vogelbacher (174). Vogelbacher is right on the cusp of the cut in the SR1 rankings sitting in fourth place. Above him is ranked Patrick Jackson (Gannon), Dalton Gimbor (Kutztown), and Owen Butler (Frostburg). Vogelbacher put up a strong case in a loss to Gimbor during the season, 4–1. The redshirt junior has wrestled in the beginning of the season and capped off regular matches 7–5.
- Wrestling at 184 pounds is Cole DuBois; entering the tournament, the redshirt freshman is ranked fifth. DuBois boasts an 11–7 record with six bonus point wins. DuBois has beaten his previous opponents from ESU, Gannon, Frostburg, Fairmont, and Seton Hill. He lost by decision to his opponents from AIC and UPJ but seeks vengeance this upcoming weekend.
- Vaughan, a veteran to the spotlight, finished in fourth place in 2024, one spot short of earning an NCAA Championships berth. Vaughan has rightfully earned his spot as the 197-pounder and holds an 11–8 record. The redshirt senior has fought for his wins this season, earning four bonus point wins and gritty decision wins. In the same position as Beatty, Vaughan is on a mission to clinch a spot at nationals.
- Rounding out the squad at 285 pounds is Bishop McCoy. The redshirt senior collected a 19–10 record and leads the team in individual wins. Still on top in the leaderboards, McCoy has accumulated 11 bonus point wins, 10 of those account for falls. The four-year starter has not punched his ticket to the tournament but intends to do so for the first time in his career at the SR1.
