Six athletes and cross country team earn USTFCCCA All-Academic nod

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Six members of the Millersville cross country team, as well as the team itself, earned 2024 NCAA Division II All-Academic honors for the 2024 season.
The All-Academic Athletes and Teams for the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country season were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
Emilea Alleman, Emily Massage, Marissa Mounce, Bri Pollock, Olivia Sunderland, and Hannah Sweda were the Marauders who met the marks for the individual honor, marking back-to-back All-Academic years for Pollock and Sweda. Sweda, a graduate student studying emergency management, finished her fifth season with Millersville and ended her career helping 'Ville achieve consecutive top-10 finishes at the PSAC Championship with the team's third best time at the race. Pollock, a sophomore studying pre-med, built on her standout freshman campaign to finish her season with the second best time at the conference championship for the Marauders. Mounce, a sophmore studying sports medicine, and Sunderland, a junior studying public relations, rounded out the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, for the Marauders at the championship race. Massage, a senior studying early childhood education, is a three time PSAC Scholar Athlete and finished third on the team at the Cantello Invitational, Lock Haven Invitational, and Paul Short Run. Alleman, a junior studying nuclear medicine, finished her first season with the Marauders with a sixth-place finish on the team at the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Millersville finished the semester with a 3.46 team GPA, making this year the 17th time in the last 18 seasons the team has earned the honor.
