Marauders cruise to dual win over F&M

| By:
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Despite back-to-back days with a dual, the Millersville women's swimming team extended its winning streak to four with a 152-90 triumph over Franklin & Marshall Saturday.

It was the first dual between Millersville and F&M since 2013, and Millersville's first win in the series. The dual included a unique eliminator format in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle. In the 1,000, swimmers were eliminated based on their standing at specific distances. The 50-yard races began with six competitors and the field was winnowed to a single head-to-head race. Millersville swimmers won three of the five elimination events.

Izabella Wreski (10:57.62) and Jane McClelland (11:09.76) finished one-two in the 1,000 free. Leah Eckert won the 50 breast, posting her best time of three swims in the finals at 31.29. Jewels Hepner captured first in the 50 free with a time of 25.11. Her 25.04 in the second swim was her best of the day.

Millersville swept the relay races. Jordan Plempel, Mackenzie Yosko, Eckert and Hepner topped five other teams with a 1:51.49 in the 200-yard medley relay. Claire Weaver, McClelland, Hepner and Anna Sassaman won the 800-yard freestyle relay in 8:14.95.

Additional winners for the Marauders included McClelland in the 500 free (5:26.31), Weaver in the 200 backstroke (2:12), Hepner in the 100 free (56.13), Yosko in the 200 butterfly (2:18.43) and Kate Pelagatti in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.76).

THOUGHTS FROM COACH EVAN ANTHONY
  • "I was really looking forward to these home meets this weekend to get an opportunity to get up and race in the middle of our winter training. The team has been looking really good in the water and has risen to another level in their training. Coming out of our meet yesterday against Arcadia, we made mental toughness a point of emphasis. Their bodies are feeling the fatigue from the weight room and swim workouts, but we talked about working on our ability to still swim fast through that. They took each race one at a time and gave it their all. We also tried out a different meet format which brought lots of energy into the pool and created a great environment. I am very excited with how the team is looking and what is to come in the final stretch of our season."
