Women's tennis starts season at Bucknell Invitational

Box Score LEWISBURG, Pa. — The reigning PSAC East champion Millersville women's tennis team made its season debut in the Bucknell Invitational, going up against tough competition in singles and doubles play.

The Marauders did not get a win in either side of the tournament, but head coach Matt Helsel said he was very encouraged by what he saw from his team. The team will be counting on Hui Jen Soo at the top of the lineup, and as more spots open up from departing players from last year's team, Hailey Guerrero and Luci Consigliere will be called upon to deliver.

"Jen played very strong at the top of the lineup," Helsel said. "Luci had a great weekend, and I was impressed with Hailey in her first collegiate event. We're going to be a tough team to play against, and this was a great way to set that expectation."

Helsel said the weekend gave him a good idea of what to make of his team, adding he is looking forward to seeing the potential of this team.

"We played very well against strong competition and learned a lot about where we stand at this early stage of the season," Helsel said. "I'm very excited about this group."

Millersville has a break between their next match, as the Marauders will hit the road to take on District of Columbia at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Washington, D.C..
