Genovese and Keeney acquire 200 career draw controls in win over Shepherd

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville lacrosse scored a season-high 20 goals in their triumphant 20-8 win over Shepherd.

Liv Genovese and Rachel Keeney reached a milestone by tallying their 200th career draw control. Genovese, a dominant force in the midfield, achieved a season-high 11 draw controls.

Millersville set an early pace, outscoring Shepherd 5-3 in the first quarter. Though the Rams scored first, three unanswered goals from the Marauders secured Millersville's lead for the remainder of the game. The first quarter demonstrated selfless play with four different goal scorers, including Genovese netting a pair.

Millersville tacked on seven goals in the second half to Shepherd's one, extending their lead to 12-4. Ashlyn Simonetti and Kaleigh Funk each scored twice twice, totaling four goals between them. Keeney skillfully navigated her way through traffic as she tacked on another three unassisted goals.

The Marauders scored four unanswered goals, pushing their lead to 16-4 and initiating a running clock. Ella Linthicum, the team leader in assists, secured a hat trick in the third quarter alone.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KAITLYN HAFDELL

  • Thoughts on today's game: "This was 100% full team effort. Everyone played unselfishly and created opportunities for each other. As usual, they worked hard the entire time and we got to see players play who do not usually get minutes and they stepped up and contributed big time. It was a complete team effort."
  • Genovese and Keeney's 200th draw control: "Our draw control this game, we dominated. It helped us set the pace and control the game. Their stats are helping us be successful and translating that into our offense."
  • Mindset for West Chester: "I think this was a good win to have. We all feel good and it will help motivate us to realize we can play like this. There is no reason we can't play like we did today because it involved us being creating and involved. We control the controllable and that is what we want to translate into this game."
