Millersville lacrosse upsets No. 25 Bloomsburg on the road

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - From offense to defense, Millersville lacrosse stunned Bloomsburg on the Huskies' home turf, winning 18-12 and securing its second PSAC East victory.

Rachel Keeney kick-started the offense, scoring in the 13th minute of play to give Millersville a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Bloomsburg tallied the equalizer, but the Marauders followed with a 4-0 run. Keeney's hot hand scored three goals in the first quarter and Millersville led 5-1 at the end of the first.

The second quarter saw a back-and-forth battle as Bloomsburg scored six goals to Millersville's five. Ashlyn Simonetti played a significant role in the Marauders' offense as she contributed two goals and two assists to help Millersville obtain the 10-7 halftime lead. The Marauders understood their defensive assignments, forcing the Huskies to commit 12 turnovers in the first half. Five of those turnovers directly resulted in Marauders' goals.

Millersville scored eight more goals in the second half. Liv Genovese and Simonetti did damage on the offense, scoring three goals each. KC O'Neill, making her second start for the Marauders in net, helped extend Millersville's lead by making 10 of her 14 saves.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KAITLYN HAFDELL

  • Thoughts on the game today: "Today we played like we wanted it. We worked hard until the last minute and never let up our lead. We had some close calls but came out on top because we hustled for everything and earned the goals that were produced."
  • O'Neill's performance in goal: "KC had a great second game and handled Bloom's high pressure. Since stepping up in the cage, she has shown how capable she is to excel at the college level."
  • Expectations on Senior Day against Shippensburg: "If the same team that showed up today shows up Saturday, we will have a good game. I am more than confident we will show up and play successfully."

UP NEXT

  • Millersville returns home to honor the seniors on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m. against Shippensburg.
