Millersville lacrosse prevails over Shippensburg to return to win column

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Millersville lacrosse put their foot on the offensive accelerator Saturday as the team generated a six-goal differential to beat Shippensburg 17-11 on the road.

Most of the action came from the Marauders in the first quarter as they scored six goals to Shippensburg's two. Rachel Keeney, Millersville's offensive generator on the day, had a hat trick in just the first quarter. Ashlyn Simonetti, Kaleigh Funk, and Liv Genovese all netted a goal to help the Marauders gain the early lead.

Both teams scored four goals in the second quarter. Shippensburg struck first in the second, followed by Millersville's string of four goals. Simonetti and Funk both tallied their second goal on the day while Victoria Labrecque and Ella Linthicum got on the board for the first time. Shippensburg had the response as they scored three goals in less than three minutes to close the gap going into halftime with Millersville leading, 10-6.

Morgan Scott was busy in the first half of action as six of her eight saves came in the first two quarters.

In the third, Keeney tallied her fourth goal in the 11th minute of play as she tied her season high of goals scored. Funk found the back of the net once more to earn herself a hat trick on the day marking it her third three-goal game of the season. Shippensburg shut down Millersville's offense during the period as they came back with three goals to cut the lead to 12-9.

Millersville, determined to keep the lead, outscored the Raiders 5-2 in the final quarter. Genovese scored a pair to be the third Marauder to score a hat trick against Shippensburg. Linthicum and Labrecque both found the back of the net once again to tally a pair on the day while Shannon Meder added one more goal to the scoreboard.
