Millersville lacrosse cannot contain Shepherd’s fourth-quarter burst

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - After three lead changes, Millersville lacrosse could not hold on at the end as Shepherd took the 19-15 win Wednesday.

As it was neck and neck between the two teams in the first half, Millersville turned on the attack in the third quarter as they trailed by one at halftime, 9-8. They outscored the Rams in the third, 5-3. Rachel Keeney matched her career high of four goals to help Millersville regain the lead, 13-12. Another vital source in Millersville's attack was Liv Genovese as she notched a hat trick.

Entering the final quarter of play, Shepherd scored three goals out of the jump to go up 15-13. Keeney found the back of the net twice more to level the score out 15-15. With Keeney and Genovese having a part in nine out of the 15 goals, it still was not enough to claim the win. Shepherd blanked Millersville for the remaining seven minutes of play as they added four more goals to their total.

Overall, the Marauders had five different goal scorers who had two or more goals but the Ram's second-half 10-goal performance stunned Millersville as they fell on the road.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Keeney scored a season-high of six goals.
  • Genovese netted her second hat trick of the season.
  • Jodylynn Cadden scored a career-high of two goals.
  • Millersville took 28 shots and placed 26 of them on frame.
  • Both teams had 11 saves a piece.

  • Thoughts on Keeney scoring a season-high of six goals: "Even when games do not go our way, we still look at the positives. Rachel's 6 goals were definitely a positive."
