Marauders fall to No. 14 Lock Haven; will face East Stroudsburg on Monday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — After giving West Chester a run for its money on Wednesday, the Millersville Marauders traveled to Lock Haven looking to ground the nationally ranked Bald Eagles. The visitors put themselves in a position to do just that after a strong first half, but eventually fell 58-37. With their loss and East Stroudsburg's victory over Mansfield, the Marauders will host the Warriors on Monday evening.

The Marauders' two main offensive pillars, forward Makiah Shaw and guard Jabria Ingram, were hot from the jump. Ingram took a Shaw screen and drove all the way to the basket for the game's first points. Shaw chipped in on the scoring a few possessions later, first nailing a face-up jumper then taking advantage of a Bald Eagle defensive lapse on the fastbreak for an easy deuce. Ingram garnered an assist on both baskets. Sophie Elstone and Jillian Crawford scored on drives as well and the game entered its second 10-minutes knotted at 14.

Both defenses found their footing in the second. The Marauders were held to 13.3% shooting from the field but forced seven Lock Haven turnovers on the other end. Add in two offensive rebounds for the 'Ville and that culminated in six more shot attempts in the period.

The Bald Eagles started to pull away after halftime. The hosts went on a 10-2 run over a two minute stretch to push the Marauder deficit to double digits for the first time. A Lock Haven nine-nothing run into the fourth quarter put the game out of reach. All told, the Bald Eagles emerged with the 58-37 victory.

GAME NOTES:
  • Millersville finishes the season as the fourth seed in the PSAC's playoff race. They will host East Stroudsburg at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 4 in the first round of the playoffs at Pucillo Gymnasium. East Stroudsburg beat Mansfield 58-52 Saturday afternoon for the right to face Millersville.
  • With the loss, the Bald Eagles even the score all-time against the Marauders at 40 wins apiece. The Marauders' record when playing at Lock Haven falls to 14-10 as well.
