Millersville wrestling opens PSAC schedule against ESU

ABOUT THE MATCH

  • Millersville wrestling, ranked No. 1 in the latest Super Region 1 rankings, opens its PSAC dual schedule Wednesday evening against East Stroudsburg. The Warriors are 0-1 in PSAC competition following a 32-3 loss to Pitt-Johnstown. Millersville has not wrestled since Nov. 16 and has not seen dual competition in a month. 

SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS

  • Three Marauders are nationally ranked. Bryce Beatty (125) is ranked No. 12, Taylor Robinson (133) is ranked No. 10, and Richie DeFulvio (149) is ranked No. 14.
  • 13 Marauders have winning records early on this season.
  • Beatty leads the team with a season record of 10-2, alongside two falls and one technical fall. The 125-pound wrestler claimed the first-place finish at the Glenville State Invitational with a 5-0 performance.
  • Robinson owns a 6-1 record. The transfer from the University of Mount Olive has been a key piece in the Marauder line-up and finished in third place at the Glennville State Invitational.
  • Bishop McCoy wrestles in the 285-pound weight class and has an 8-2 season record. He leads the team in bonus point wins with six, five coming from pins while emerging victorious at the Glenville State Invitational as a champion.
  • Defulvio has a 6-2 record alongside one fall, two technical falls, and two major decisions. he also finished fifth at the Glenville State Invitational.
  • The Marauders' only blemish in four duals was against Division I George Mason. The Marauders most recently defeated Bloomsburg, 30-12. 

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS

  • East Stroudsburg's squad has 14 wrestlers with winning records. The Warriors have one ranked wrestler on their team, Layton Schmick wrestles at 285 pounds and is ranked No. 12. Schmick is 4-1 on the season with three of his wins coming from pins.
  • Eric Falleni (149) and Brian Lombardi (141) hold 8-4 records in the current season. Both Warriors have rallied for three technical fall wins, and Lombardi has added two falls to his ongoing total.
  • Sean Campbell at 125 has a 4-1 record with two falls. Right on his heels is teammate Elijah Bundro who wrestles between 125 and 133 and holds a current 2-1 record, both wins counting as falls.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Millersville and East Stroudsburg first met in 1946-47. The Marauders hold a narrow 38-37 lead in the series. Millersville has won the last three straight duals against ESU. The Warriors closed the gap in point differential last year, but it was not enough to secure the conference victory as the Marauders prevailed, 23-19. Beatty wrestled against Jason Athey twice the previous year. Beatty went 2-0, with one victory from the conference dual and one win in the NCAA Super Region 1 Championship. A potential rematch between McCoy and Layton Schmick in the heavyweight class will occur. Both wrestlers went head to head in last year's dual, with Schmick emerging victorious with a double overtime 3-2 victory. At 197 pounds, O'Boyle earned his team a bonus point win with his 11-3 victory over Matthew Richardson.
